Elderlyman dies in fire
THACH — A Walker County man died late Tuesday evening when a fire broke out at his home about seven miles north of Jasper. Therman Harvill, 64, died as the result of a fire that destroyed the home where he lived with his brother at 11022 Alabama Highway 195 in the Thach community. Harvill’s brother, 74-year-old Troy Harvill, was critically injured in the fire and was taken to the burn center at UAB Medical Center in Birmingham.

Career Day set for area’s unemployed, underemployed
A Career Day is being held Friday as a joint effort of the Alabama Career Center and the Chamber of Commerce of Walker County’s Focus Walker County initiative to help local citizens find employment or guide them towards workforce training. Kim Ennis, chair of the workforce development and education committee for Focus Walker County and Bevill State assistant to the dean of student services, said Focus Walker County has established target audiences — high school students, educators and business and industry. The Career Day is an initiative to provide resources for its fourth target audience — the unemployed and underemployed.

Water Chemistry Monitoring
Take this one day class and learn to monitor and evaluate physical and
chemical features of water. Participants will learn the water quality
parameters shown below, which are measured with a customized test kit
to form the core data.
• pH
• Temperature
• Total Alkalinity
• Total Hardness
• Dissolved Oxygen
• Turbidity
Learn principles of Alabama Water Watch, catch critters in the creek and
monitor and evaluate physical, chemical and biological features of water.
Workshops are free of charge and carry Continuing Education Units
(CEUs) with Auburn University.
